TEACHER Carol Cain has been rewarded for her dedication to the community.
She was commended in the recent Mancunian of the Year awards and received a framed certificate in a ceremony at Manchester Town Hall.
Carol, head of geography at Radcliffe High School, said she was stunned to be mentioned alongside people such as international runner Darren Campbell and the joint winners, Frances Done and Sir Howard Bernstein, both honoured for their work on the Commonwealth Games. She was nominated by her former headteacher Graham Rollinson who said "every organisation needs a Carol Cain to be successful".
She is former pupil at Radcliffe High and been a teacher there for more than 30 years. She helps in charity fundraising in school and is the chairman of governors at Radcliffe Junior School. She is also involved in St Thomas's Church and helps out at Radcliffe Cricket Club where husband Alan is groundsman.
The Mancunian of the Year awards are made by Manchester Junior Chamber of Commerce.
