STAFF and regulars at a Blackburn pub have paid tribute to a man they nicknamed Elvis, who died after he was hit by a taxi while walking home on Friday night.
Terence Higginson, 57, of Waterloo Close, was crossing Livesey Branch Road at 11.20pm on Friday on his way home from the Lord Raglan pub.
He was in an accident with a Vauxhall Vectra heading towards Feniscowles as it overtook a car waiting to turn right into King's Road.
He was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary but died of his injuries the following morning.
Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward with information about the incident and have released the registration number of the Vectra, X129 LNM, in a bid to jog memories.
The driver was uninjured.
The landlord of the Lord Raglan, John McGuire, said: "Terry was well-liked in here and came in about four nights a week. He was just a lovely, innocent bloke.
"He enjoyed a drink and was nicknamed Elvis for his karaoke performances. He would always get up and sing whenever the karaoke was on and it was always Elvis songs."
Neighbour Stephen Shorrock said Mr Higginson was well-liked, but a bit of a loner, among the community in Waterloo Close, where he had lived for about two years.
Anyone with information about the incident should call Accrington road policing unit on 01254 353764.
