OUR Pride of East Lancashire campaign - the biggest-ever drive to win recognition for our region, its achievements and its unsung heroes - has got off to a fantastic start with backing today from Premier Tony Blair.
But the Prime Minister is not the only one who believes East Lancashire's talents, spirit and innumerable assets deserve to be shouted about and praised.
Lots of people - from the region's MPs and civic leaders to business chiefs and sports stars - have lined up behind our campaign.
It's a sign of the self-belief that lies beneath the modest outlook that often makes East Lancashire folk shy of being boastful.
But we believe it's high time that our region was boosted by itself and for itself - above all, so that the often-overlooked hard work and courage of the individuals, volunteers and community groups that enrich East Lancashire are repaid by the merit they deserve.
That's why Pride of East Lancashire and its generous sponsors have a raft of awards to make - to East Lancashire's outstanding volunteer, the neighbour of the year, the greatest community group, to the bravest child and to many more.
But the choice is YOURS. For this campaign is about the people of East Lancashire having pride not just in their region, its achievements and its heroes, but in themselves.
It's got off to a super start and we want everyone on board.
