NURSES and midwives across the district have been honoured for outstanding care in ceremonies to mark the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birthday.
Honours boost for special nurses
The events to honour staff at Pennine Hospitals NHS Trust were held at hospitals across the region.
The event was the first nurses' day celebration to mark the birthday of Florence Nightingale.
As part of the celebrations, the trust held an awards ceremony for nurses and midwives across all hospital sites. Staff were nominated for the awards by their patients, colleagues and managers.
Director of Nursing at the trust Denise Houghton said: "All our nurses and midwives work extremely hard not only to deliver real and lasting improvements for our patients, but to support each other and share good practice across the trust."
Each division of the trust nominated a nurse of the year. These divisions are women and children, surgery, medicine and diagnostics/clinical support.
Trust chief executive Chris Appleby said: "On behalf of the trust I would like to express enormous gratitude to all of our nurses and midwives for their hard work under increasing pressure.
"Their commitment to patients never falters and I'm sure that the launch of our first nurses' awards will help to emphasise how much they are appreciated."
