LANCASHIRE artist David Lyons gave a sneak preview of his latest work to County Coun Niki Penney, the outgoing chairman of Lancashire County Council, at the 'Worlds Apart' exhibition.
The Barrowford born painter's love of art began when he started painting scenery for school plays.
Although he started his working life as a teacher the lure of the canvas proved too strong and he swapped the blackboard and chalk for paintbrushes and easel in 1972.
Since then David has established a strong reputation for depicting cows and sheep among the familiar Lancashire landscape.
He now works from his studio near Barley at the foot of Pendle Hill and his work can be seen at exhibitions around the country and on the internet.
Coun Penney said: "David's work shows a great love for Lancashire, its heritage and character and I was delighted to be given an advance preview of his latest pictures. Art lovers and anyone with a love of Lancashire should make the effort to find out more about his work.
"I want to see our artists get the recognition they deserve. People like David make a real contribution to the county's economy by attracting tourists to their exhibitions and enhance our cultural heritage."
David's latest exhibition is at Wensley Gallery, Market Place, Ramsbottom. To find out more about David's work visit: www.davidclyons.com.
