THE decision by Blackburn with Darwen Council to ban all phone cameras from swimming pools (LET, May 14) beggars belief.
Thank goodness we are not a holiday resort, or this barmy council would ban the use of phone (or other) cameras to supposedly prevent perverts and paedophiles from taking such shocking photographs of children enjoying themselves in the sea and on the beach.
The only people this will anger or inconvenience are parents and families, for it is they who will be made to feel uncomfortable for wanting to take such innocent photographs, perchance anyone else should think they are the perverts.
It's time we started to elect councillors who live in the real world, and who have what we have unfortunately taken for granted -- common sense.
Policies such as these will do nothing to protect our children and deter perverts or paedophiles. Life sentences in prison may do.
NOEL EKE (Mr), Pickering Fold, Blackburn.
