Ex-Leeds speedster agreeds Centurions deal to end of season

RIVETT WINGS IN

FOR LEIGH

FLYING winger Leroy Rivett will become a fully-fledged member of Leigh Centurions' promotion-chasing squad this week.

Leeds-based Rivett will put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at Hilton Park for the rest of the season.

Rivett, who won the Lance Todd Trophy for his four-try performance for Leeds in the 1999 Challenge Cup Final, has been with the Centurions all season but only on a month-by-month contract.

But helped by a donation from the Leigh Independent Supporters' Association, Rivett will be staying for the rest of the campaign.

Head coach Paul Terzis is delighted with Rivett's decision to stay. "He's backed himself in the three months he's been with us. Now he's been rewarded for that. We're happy to have him on board.

"He's shown a great attitude in his time with us and proved that he's a bloke who knows where the tryline is."

Rivett is again likely to be in the squad for Sunday's trip to struggling Oldham as Leigh aim to maintain their 100 per cent National League One record.

But Leigh are still sweating on the fitness of hooker Paul Rowley who missed last Sunday's Arriva Trains Cup quarter-final victory over Featherstone with a shoulder injury.

"There has been some improvement, but it's going to be touch and go for Paul to be 100 per cent for Sunday," says Terzis. If he fails to recover, John Hamilton will continue to deputise.

Half-back John Duffy is still troubled by a minor knee problem but is expected to play but star full-back Neil Turley will again miss out. Turley's damaged ankle is recovering well but Leigh won't take any risks.

Despite their lowly position - they are second bottom - Oldham will still pose Leigh a problem, says Terzis.

"They've had a couple of poor results lately and will have been stung. We've got to be ready for a backlash.

"There is also the added ingredient of their several ex-Leigh players. There are a few lads there who will want to prove a point or two."

Leigh's Junior Academy side who lost their opening match 26-19 to Halifax, are again in action at Hilton Park this weekend. Lloyd Pugsley's young side will take on Castleford Tigers on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.
