ONE of the Bury Times' longest-serving employees has retired.
Joan Sawdon who was 60 on Monday, joined the Bury Times as a 22-year-old, working at the Cross Street headquarters as an accounts clerk and then cashier. Later, at Market Street, she was accounts office supervisor and in recent years has been personal assistant to a succession of general managers.
Joan, of Ramsey Grove, Bury, received a crystal owl gift from colleagues, as well as a framed, spoof Bury Times front page reporting her retirement, flowers and a cake donated by Asda.
Joan is looking forward to having more time for her garden and to signing-on for one or two evening classes.
