A LANCASTER gallery is set to become the first in Britain to host the works of a world renowned artist.
Maiden Bridge Arts Centre has been chosen to show a collection of print works by textile artist Anni Albers.
The exhibition will be a celebration of Anni's life and is seen as 'a real coup' for the gallery and for Lancashire by Maiden Bridge owner Hannah Smeds-Davies.
"Anni Albers is a highly acclaimed designer who made a real contribution to the art world at a pivotal time in history. We are proud to be hosting the UK's first exhibition of her work and very much hope that people will visit us and make the most of this opportunity," she says.
Anni was one of the last surviving artists of the famous Bauhaus School, where she associated with artists such as Paul Klee, Vassily Kandinsky and her husband Josef Albers.
In 1949 she became the first ever textile artist to be given a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
