COUNTY Council Lib Dem leader David Whipp has warned that new arrangements at Lancashire County Council's recycling centres could lead to an explosion of roadside dumping.
The Pendle member has written to the county council's cabinet member with responsibility for the sites. He said: "New arrangements stop paying concerns, such as builders and businesses with vans and large trailers, from using the sites. A leaflet advises people affected to use the nearest private tip at Preston or make other arrangements. I'm worried that this will lead to an explosion of fly tipping and roadside dumping. It's a constant battle to get rid of these grot spots. I fear our open spaces and rural verges will be disfigured by more rubbish.
"If the local council has to pick it all up we will all be paying a penalty through our council tax. I'm asking for this decision to be thought through and for discussions between the county and local councils."
