A SPORTS tutor is hoping to scramble her way to success when she takes part in the World's Fittest Woman championship to be held in Hong Kong.
Lucinda Hughes, 24, who teaches at Myerscough College, is a member of the British Climbing Team and has beaten competitors from around the country to win the British Indoor Climbing and Bouldering championships.
Lucinda is hoping to compete in climbing events over the summer months in Europe, if she gets funding.
She will then prepare to pit her wits against nine other women for the World's Fittest Woman event in October.
The event will involve various challenges, from deep sea diving and mountain biking, to assault courses and mental challenges. Lucinda is now in training and hopes she can prove she is fittest and strongest of them all.
She said: "I think I'll be best at the assault course as the similarities to climbing should stand me in good stead." Lucinda is the current British champion at bouldering which involves climbing without ropes or harnesses.
"Bouldering requires shorter bursts of strength as the routes are shorter," she added. "Climbing offers a different challenge and you need more stamina.
"The swimming activities should be okay as well, as I'm a qualified swimming instructor and good in the pool. But I'm not looking forward to the mountain biking."
