FOUR Prestwich pals took the plunge by taking part in the 2003 Playtex Moonwalk to raise money for the fight against breast cancer.
Lorraine Platt, Gwynneth Barrett, Diane Garvey and Margaret Price got together and signed up for the world's only power-walking marathon, which took place in London earlier this month.
After plenty of training in all weathers, the women joined 15,000 walkers including celebrities Gail Porter, Lorraine Kelly and Bury-born comedienne Victoria Wood.
The event was themed by the sponsors, Playtex, and participants completed the marathon appropriately, in decorated bras.
Diane Garvey produced the Prestwich team's costumes, by adding a marabou trim to striking silver bras.
The women were backed by MP Ivan Lewis who said: "I am tremendously proud of Gwynneth, Lorraine, Diane and Margaret whose efforts to raise money for the fight against breast cancer are a wonderful example of commitment, compassion and charity.
"These special women should be a source of pride to the entire Prestwich community. I hope we will support them in their future fund-raising endeavours."
The marathon began at Battersea Park at midnight and the route took them past the Houses of Parliament as Big Ben struck 1am.
The walkers then followed the track around the Thames embankment, past the London Eye and St Pauls Cathedral.
They enjoyed the sight of a floodlit Tower Bridge as they neared the finish line.
Between them and with the help and support of their families and friends, the Prestwich squad raised over £1,000 for the charity.
