STAFF and customers at a Bury pub are teaming up for a fundraising extravaganza this weekend for Christie's Against Cancer.
And plucky landlady of the Old Boars Head Linda Price has agreed to have her head shaved to boost the funds -- while some of her male regulars have volunteered to have their legs and chests waxed.
Said Linda: "It's a small sacrifice which will give a big boost to our donation for such an important cause. We want to raise as much money as possible so we're looking for more volunteers."
Linda, who originally comes from New Zealand, arrived at the pub in Heap Bridge Road in February. She said: "The locals have been very welcoming and supportive which is reflected in their fantastic enthusiasm for the event."
It starts on Sunday at 1pm with a tug o' war on the village green, a wide variety of games, face painting and a barbecue. Customers will be entertained throughout the day with the rhythm and blues of Moses Leg and the comedy of The David George Experience.
Christie's Against Cancer is a charity which supports the work of Christie's Hospital.
"Christie's is a charity close to the hearts of the pub and the community," said Linda.
"The money which we raise will help fund vital research and new equipment for the hospital."
Anyone interested in volunteering to take part in the head shave or wax should contact Linda on 0161 763 6736.
Donations are also welcome.
