BLACKBURN Rovers star Dwight Yorke is at the centre of a battle over a legal loophole that could affect thousands of motorists.
The striker was appealing against an October 2002 speeding conviction after he was allegedly clocked travelling at 61mph in his Porsche sports car in a 40mph zone.
His barrister, Lisa Judge, told London's High Court the Trinidad and Tobago international had not fully completed or signed a notice sent to him under the Road Traffic Act 1988.
Ms Judge argued that it could not be used as evidence to show he admitted driving the Porsche on Princess Road, Withington, Manchester on May 16, 2001.
Yorke escaped a conviction for speeding in February 2002, when he was acquitted on a technical point regarding the correct use of police speed cameras.
Mr Justice Owen reserved his judgment in yesterday's case, saying he would give his ruling as soon as possible.
