the sound
of silence
ONE silly national day I am right behind is Noise Action Day to be celebrated on June 4 - to promote peace and quiet.
Everyone is affected by noise at home and at work and with a little care and consideration everyone can help reduce the impact noise has on the neighbours' quality of life.
Loud music and barking dogs top the complaints list followed by alarms and fireworks which can be torture too.
My most hated, infuriating sounds include bouncing footballs, tampered with motor bikes and screaming children.
I wouldn't welcome being deaf, but there's nothing nicer than the sound of silence when you want it. Oh the joy.
It's National Walk to School Week, but I don't think anyone knows. The school run is creating as much havoc on the roads as ever.
England footballer Gareth Southgate is urging children to raise their fitness levels and walk to school, where it's safe to do so of course.
More than 39 per cent of primary pupils are now driven to classes and I'm sure there's no need for it.
Fair enough if parents are on the way to work at the time, but many cars on the road at school times are unnecessary. It would do both parent and child more good to participate in a bit of power walking.
What's wrong with children calling for each other and going together in a group like we did? It would be far healthier for them and relieve the traffic hold-ups.
