THE threat of eviction to tenants if their children drink on the streets (LET, May 17) is neither fair nor reasonable.
Young people who drink to excess must have some reason to behave in this way. They, and their families, need help and support rather than draconian measures which evict the whole family because of one young person.
The circumstances of each family need to be assessed before such a decision is even considered.
Society has changed and many of the behaviours seen are unwelcome -- the increase in rubbish, the noise level and the alienation of people from their community -- but the answer does not lie in sweeping, simplistic decisions which only move the problem somewhere else.
Twin Valley Homes, of Blackburn and Darwen, must recognise a responsibility to help all their tenants and, where behaviour indicates a family may be affecting other residents, appropriate attempts to help them change their behaviours should be tried.
