A FAMILY of four had a lucky escape after an unattended burning candle cause a fired at a home in Coal Clough Lane, Burnley, earlier today.
Firefighters were called to the house at 5.40am after receiving reports of a fire in the bathroom of the house.
The family, who have not been named, fled the house before officers arrived.
A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "They had a very, very lucky escape. There are two lessons to be learnt from this fire, one is not to leave candles unattended and the other is to fit smoke alarms.
"We fitted a couple of smoke alarms while we were there, but the family are now without water and electricity. I cannot emphasise enough how lucky they were. I don't know what woke them up but they were extremely fortunate."
The fire caused severe damage to the bathroom of the house and smoke damage to the rest of the property.
No one was injured in the blaze.
