VOLUNTARY groups in Rossendale are being advised to apply for cash after National Lottery chiefs said the area was to receive priority in funding applications.
The Awards for All organisers studied grant awards across the North West and concluded Rossendale had been missing out and said more cash should head to the Valley. Councillor Graham Pearson, council leader, said: "This is a great opportunity for local groups and organisations to win funding for projects.
"Any money awarded will be to run projects and not be for capital schemes such as buildings.
"A wide range of projects will be considered, including community work, sport and the arts."
Awards will be less than £5,000 and preference will be given to applications benefiting disabled people, unpaid carers and those tackling issues of deprivation and isolation. Projects benefiting ethnic minority communities will also be viewed favourably.
Applications from individuals will not be considered, but organised groups need not be large.
Advice on setting up groups and making applications is available from Rossendale Council's Cultural Services department on 01706 244748, Awards for All on 01925 626800 or the website www.awardsforall.org.uk
