A WOMAN who has fostered and cared for many children from East Lancashire decided to call it a day yesterday, retiring as a foster mum after 15 years in the role.
For Joan Coyne, of Britannia Avenue, Bacup, it was both a sad and happy occasion after she chose her 63rd birthday to wave goodbye.
A special presentation ceremony was held in her home, when staff from the East Lancashire Family Placement Team, who she had come to know well over the years, presented her with a bouquet of flowers and a certificate for all her hard work and commitment to her role as foster mum.
Her retirement coincides with national Foster Fortnight, an annual event, which ends tomorrow and which is aimed at raising the profile of fostering.
