REGARDING the new police surgeries in Blackburn's Mill Hill, Galligreaves and Feniscowles areas (LET, May 16), the Community Police in Mill Hill have held surgeries on numerous occasions at the Community Centre. They usually lasted for two hours.
I saw to it that posters were put on display in the shops on Mill Hill advertising the surgeries. The most that ever attended was three people. Normally, if they got one person to attend they were lucky.
So, quite honestly, I can't see them working -- people are very disillusioned with the police. The best thing that has happened is the introduction of the Community Warden.
He is pretty high-profile; no-one can miss him, and he is approachable. Still, I hope the surgeries work and people attend them. They have my full support.
In Mill Hill there is a Crime and Disorder Group, which meets every two months, comprising residents, councillors and representatives from the police and other organisations. It is open for anyone to come along and discuss their problems. We will try our best to help them.
The next meeting is on Monday, June 10, 2003, from 1pm to 3pm at Mill Hill Community Centre, New Chapel Street. Anyone from Mill Hill, Green Lane, Livesey and Galligreaves is welcome.
