CROWDS packed into Centre Vale Park for the annual Todmorden Carnival on Saturday despite the grey skies.
People lined the streets of the town to watch the procession of floats, created by community groups and organisations, make its way to the carnival field.
There was also a large fairground, charity stalls, mini-motorbikes, refreshments stands and a five-a-side tournaments.
Philip Clarke, new chairman of Todmorden Carnival Committee, said 1,500 to 2,000 people would have attended by the end of the day.
"We have to cover the costs of putting on the event but anything left over will go to charities. Last year we made £3,000 to £4,000 ."
The carnival, which was first held in 1953, always attracts people from across Lancashire and Yorkshire and often further afield, including carnival queens from around the North West.
Entertainment was provided by Todmorden Brass Band, as well as dance troupes and young bands. The popular tug-of-war also made a reappearance on the festival field this year.
