CHURCH Street, Blackburn, is set to go continental again this summer with the return of foreign markets.
And traders hope to cash in on the success of Harry Potter with a day of events in the young magician's honour.
The continental market, an expanded version of last year's French Market which was declared a roaring success by traders and council bosses, is one of a number of events planned this summer.
But there is no danger of last year's 'French Revolution' stand-off taking place because Blackburn's market traders have been invited to get involved too.
It will run from June 6 to 8 and August 1 to 3, with traders from across Europe converging on Church Street, alongside a Taste of Lancashire stand which will sell produce from local traders.
Last year, traders on Blackburn market set up their own outdoor event outside the Market Hall to clash with the French traders who had set up yards away.
Council bosses hope the appeal of Mediterranean olives, wines, pates, cured meats, breads and deserts along with European fast food and Lancashire produce will bring people flocking to Blackburn. It is one of a series of events under the banner of Streetlife 2003.
Coun Andy Kay, executive member for regeneration at Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: "The Streetlife Festival is a new concept in the provision of additional attractions and events to promote Blackburn town centre as a prime shopping and visitor destination for summer 2003.
"The festival will support a town centre already bursting with quality retail and family-friendly facilities and will provide cost-free value to the local community, regular shoppers and new visitors to the area."
The day dedicated to Harry Potter, called 'Go Harry Potty!' is on June 28, to tie in with the publication of the fifth book chronicling the antics of the teenage wizard.
A 'magical creatures' marquee will be filled with owls, snakes and spiders from Blackpool Zoo and local owl career Barn Owl Bill. Wizards will be walking around the town centre performing magic and breathing fire.
Fans of the Harry Potter films will also be able to sit in a replica 'Flying Ford Anglia.'
On June 14, a Looking Good day takes place, with fashion shows among other attractions.
And on June 21, a Sports Extreme event in the town centre features everything from football to arm wrestling, while a rock-climbing wall is to be exhibited.
