WHILE I would defend Roy Davies' (Letters, May 22) right to bemoan the lot of Darwen folk when it comes to getting their fair share of available resources, I feel compelled to put the record straight regarding the funding for the Fleming Square regeneration project in Blackburn.
My partners and I have committed everything that we have and more besides in order to ensure the future of the Exchange Arcade. The relatively-modest, yet vital, grant assistance from various funding initiatives has helped to turn our vision into reality.
More than 18 months of sleepless nights and nagging doubts have resulted in the Arcade being fully tenanted with bright new specialist shops, all of which have taken a huge leap of faith and optimism in the future of the scheme.
The council's regeneration department has now fulfilled a commitment that they made to us at the start of our project, namely, that they would try to secure regional development funding to complete the streetscape improvements.
The end result will be a spectacular success that we should all be very proud of.
