THE former leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council has been appointed to the board of the area's primary care health trust.
Coun Malcolm Doherty is a new 'lay' non-executive director of Blackburn with Darwen Primary Care Trust.
Chairman Pauline Walsh said: "I am delighted to welcome Malcolm onto the board.
"As a local councillor and former leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, many local people will know Malcolm's record of achievement.
"He also has a wealth of relevant experience as a non executive director of the former East Lancashire Health Authority, which will be of great benefit.
"I am confident that Malcolm will make a significant contribution as we seek to achieve our very demanding plans so that we can make a real difference to the health of local people."
Coun Doherty has been a local councillor for more than 20 years, eight which were spent as leader. He is currently Vice Chairman of the Lancashire Police Authority and a Lay Canon of Blackburn Cathedral.
