PLEASE sir, can we have some more! That's what members of Blackpool and the Fylde Light Opera Company hope their audience will be saying when they perform Oliver next month.
The famous Lionel Bart musical -- featuring memorable numbers as Food Glorious Food and As Long As He Needs Me -- will be performed at Blackpool's Grand Theatre, June 18-21.
The title role will be shared by nine-year-old Henry Cox and 12-year-old Dominic Crichton who were chosen from auditions in December.
"They have since been working hard to develop the performance expected by this prestigious professional venue," said a company spokeswoman.
The other main child role, Artful Dodger, will also be shared by youngsters Elliott Middlesborough and Dominic Sterling. "Despite their young ages all four boys have impressive credentials including theatre and television work," the spokeswoman said.
"Elliott has played the part of the more naive Oliver previously but is pleased to have the opportunity to portray the less innocent and crafty pickpocket, Dodger."
Playing Fagin will be Ian Wray, who runs a dance school with his daughter Lian, also the show's choreographer.
Anne Lloyd Jones will play Nancy, and Alan Morton takes on the menacing role of Bill Sykes, for which he won a North West Operatic award in a previous production. Oliver is being directed by John Shedwick, with Glyn Lloyd as musical director. Tickets are available from the Grand's box office on 290190.
