A VETERAN walker with a head for heights has finally realised his ambition and conquered Britain's highest peak, Ben Nevis.
And fellow walkers helped him celebrate on the snow-capped peak with a bottle of champagne!
Trevor Williams (57) of Holcombe Avenue, Elton, has had a passion for walking since being a teenager.
As a youngster he completed walks in the Lake District and during the 1980s, when his family bought a holiday caravan in north Wales, Mr Williams was able to complete mountain walks in the Welsh mountains. But it was in 1995, during a trip to the Highlands with work colleagues, that he set himself the challenge of climbing all its 284 Munros, mountains over 3,000ft.
Mr Williams conquered his final Munro this month, and was astounded by the beautiful views from the summit.
He said: "Nothing can prepare you for the physical beauty of Scotland. The awe-inspiring views, the solitude, the sheer physical challenge of it all.
"The feeling was fantastic, albeit very emotional. It was a perfect day: very rare in the mountains but almost as if it was meant to be."
Now the walker intends to complete the scottish Corbetts, mountains between 2,500ft and 3,000ft, and also has plans for more trekking abroad.
