A 93-YEAR-OLD woman has been left seriously injured after being hit by a police car in Blackpool town centre.
Pensioner, Ivy Leonard, of Manchester Road in the resort, collided with the police car on Newton Drive at around 1.15pm on Thursday, May 29.
The road was closed for two hours as an accident investigation team arrived on the scene.
It is believed the car -- which was racing to join colleagues in a stolen vehicle police chase -- had its sirens sounding and emergency lights flashing when the accident occurred.
The victim was rushed to Blackpool Victoria Hospital suffering from fractures to her shoulder and hip.
The officer in charge of the vehicle has been suspended from duty pending an internal investigation into the incident and may face an inquiry from the Police Complaints Authority.
