PAUL Roberts's shows involve a lot of wig-wearing. Back in the 70s Paul was a member of one of the first cover bands -- Flying High -- that cast a nostalgic eye back to the music of the 60s.
So, in the tidal wave of tribute bands that swept through Britain's concert halls at the start of the 90s, Paul, 42, seemed the obvious choice to front Mamma Mia - a paean to Abba, the Bee Gees, Grease and other sounds of the Seventies.
Paul said: "I can't get a job now unless I'm wearing a wig!"
Most of the audience that comes to see the show turns out in wigs and fancy dress too.
Paul said: "The audience has a party. They love the night."
Before he was picked for the part of Bjorn, Paul says he was not a big Abba fan.
"Back in the 70s I didn't like Abba," he said.
"But when you do a tribute, you have to work out the harmonies and I realised how melodic their songs are. They were miles ahead of their time."
As well as appearing in Abba, Paul plays the role of Danny in Grease - one of the other acts in the show.
He said: "We do all the songs and dialogue from Grease and it's unbelievable how many people in the audience know all the words.
"There's a huge age range among Grease fans as well. It's massive."
You can catch Mamma Mia at Burnley Mechanics on June 7. Call 01282 664400 for details.
