THOUSANDS of gallons of water have been leaking down a village drain for over two months.
Despite calls to United Utilities' Leakline and letters to the company's managing director seeking urgent action, nothing has been done to stem the flow in Mill Street, Golborne.
The burst in the road which runs between 23 and 25 High Street was first reported on March 14, claims Cllr Peter Franzen. Two weeks later United Utilities reported that work was due to start, but still the water gushes on.
Cllr Franzen said: "To date no works have been carried out and the water is still running. Perhaps United Utilities could supply some ducks and we could re-name the street Mill Brook!
"Seriously what is the point of members of the public reporting such leaks if United Utilities are not going to fix them? And why should the consumer have to pay for United Utilities' incompetence?
A Unitied Utilities spokesman said: "Engineers were sent out to repair the fault after it was reported in March. They were due to return to the site on Wednesday as a leak was reported again in that area. We don't know if this latest leak is connected with the first. Service to customers has not been affected and we apologise for any inconvenience that these leaks may have caused."
