TWO schools who were threatened by closure are the locations for planned new nurseries.
Among the latest planning applications submitted to Wigan Council are Shakerley Community Partnership's blueprint for a single storey nursery building for 25 children aged four and under and outdoor play area on land next to Shakerley CE School in Lancaster Avenue, Tyldesley.
And Hindsford Community Link Ltd want a 46 place nursery, community room and playground next to Hindsford CE Primary School in Lodge Road.
Other applications include: former St George's Infants School, Nelson Street, Atherton - doctors surgery, pharmacy and offices; land at Samuel Street, Hindsford - nine three bedroom houses; 10 Deacon Road, Bickershaw - change from flat to office and meeting venue for community use; Turncroft Farm, Tyldesley - conversion of farm buildings to three dwellings and garages; Hyndell Lodge, King Street, Hindley - infill extension inside building; 115 Car Bank Street, Atherton - new emergency fire escape/door at 1st Atherton Scout HQ; George V1, Flapper Fold Lane, Atherton - single storey extension; 26 Leigh Road, Leigh - change to dental laboratory; 396 St Helens Road, Leigh - vehicle crossing; 16 Overton Street, Leigh - double garage and demolition of existing garage; Unit 1A/1C Lowton Enterprise Park - change of use B1 to B2 general industrial; 239 Sandy Lane, Hindley - change of use to sunbed centre; 197 Higher Green Lane, Astley - retail shop (A1); 8 Tensing Avenue, Atherton - porch and wc extension.
