THE quiet life is coming to Leigh as environmental experts urge residents to enjoy the sound of silence for a day.
The annual Noise Action Day comes to the borough on Wednesday as part of a national campaign to make people aware of the noises they make and how it affects others.
Organised by the National Society for Clean Air and Environmental Protection, it is aimed at providing practical solutions to problems with noisy neighbours.
Experts from Wigan Council's Environmental Health and Consumer Protection Department will have a stall at Asda in Atherleigh Way and will be offering advice to shoppers.
Noise problems can be caused in a range of ways by domestic appliances, pets, DIY or alarms.
Cllr Lynne Liptrot, council cabinet member for the environment, said: "Noise is a nuisance but the vast majority can be avoided with a little consideration for other people.
"There are occasions when neighbours cannot resolve noise issues on their own which is where environmental health can help."
Anyone who wants advice can contact Leigh environmental health on 01942 733349.
Everyone can do their bit to reduce noise in their home and ensure we all have a peaceful and enjoyable summer.
