A LYTHAM man is in hospital after ejecting from a vintage fighter plane shortly before it crashed into a Welsh river on Sunday.
Craig Penrice, a member of the Exeter-based Hunter Flying Club, was flying the Hawker Hunter F6A jet back from an air show in Northern Ireland when the crash happened.
Mr Penrice, who is a test pilot with BAe systems at Warton, suffered two fractured vertebrae and is being treated at the Morriston Hospital in Swansea.
An investigation has now been launched after the crash at the Dyfi Estuary, near Aberdovey, at around 3.15pm on Sunday.
