CHORLEY just failed to take maximum points from their Northern Premier League match against Lancaster at Lune Road on Saturday.

After looking well set to overhaul Chorley's imposing 239-6, Lancaster suffered a lower order batting collapse and the last pair were left to block out a tense last over to save the game.

Five batsmen made significant contributions to the Chorley total, skipper Jim Fazackerley, who top-scored with 47, putting on 75 with Tom Smith (29) for the second wicket.

Nigel Heaton (42) and former Wiltshire batsman Tom Oatley, with a fluent 35, kept up the momentum, before a blistering late assault by professional Stephen John (49 not out) ensured a stiff target for the home side.

The Lancaster reply faltered when Munnik chopped a ball from Billy Smith onto his stumps when he had made 48 and Heywood was run out by a brilliant throw from Heaton for 100.
