DARWEN girls are preparing for their first Cricket training session on Wednesday.
All girls under 15 with an interest in cricket are invited to attend the event at Lower Darwen Cricket Club on Sandy Lane, from 6.30 to 8pm.
Darwen Cricket Club coaches have been trying for years to start a girls' club and are now starting training to 'test the water'.
Coach Rachel Walmsley said: "It's so important for them to have their own team because it's awkward when they have to play alongside boys and they are the only girl.
"We want to get them playing in leagues because last year we entered in the youth games and came runner-up. I'm sure that, with training and experience, we can build up a very successful team."
