REGARDING Mr James Cook's remarks in 'Sick society summed up in band's name' (Letters, May 21).
I am a member of the band mentioned, the Fashionable Winos and I accept that the name could be taken out of context by some, but I feel it should be taken with a pinch of salt.
There are many things in today's youth culture of much greater concern than a local band's name. Under-age drinking is very common in Blackburn and many kids who aren't even old enough to drink take drugs such as Ecstasy on a regular basis.
I have been around the music scene in Blackburn for some time now and many of the bands around sing about wanting to kill themselves and how much they hate their parents.
If you were to see one of the Fashionable Winos' shows, you would see that we are simply about having a good time, not forcing people to drink heavily.
