THERE has been a close season boost for the Clarets as striker Gareth Taylor will be ready to return to training with the side within six weeks time.

The Welsh international front-runner, who was last season's top scorer for the Turf Moor club with 18 goals, suffered a knee injury in last week's friendly against the USA in San Jose.

The 30-year-old, whose exploits earned him the club's player of the season award, had been given a worst case scenario of being out for anything up to three months.

However, a scan of the injured joint this weekend has revealed that the damage is not as bad as first thought and he should be able to return to training within four to six weeks.

It is a huge boost for Clarets boss Stan Ternent as the player should be able to join in with pre-season training from the word go rather than be left on the sidelines for the summer workouts.
