GOVERNMENT inspectors gave top marks all round at Guardian Angels RC Primary in Bury.
Ofsted inspector Mr M. Newell said: "The school is very well led and managed by the headteacher who has played a significant role in the continued development of the school and in creating an excellent team spirit.
"There are some major strengths in teaching and these, together with the very good attitudes and behaviour of the pupils, form a powerful combination in how well pupils achieve in many subjects by the time they leave school.
According to the inspectors, Guardian Angels' has tackled issues identified during the last inspection in a "rigorous" manner which has resulted in "good quality" schemes of work now in place to support and enhance teaching and learning across the school.
Educationally the school is "well above" average, with standards high not just in the core subjects of English, maths and science, but right across the range.
Even from a very early age the children have the benefit of the highest standards. The foundation stage was described as "integrated and effective" and a place where the new arrivals "get off to a flying start in their educational lives, make good progress and achieve well".
The provision for pupils with special needs was highlighted, especially the encouragement of parents to get involved and take a "full and active role" in their child's progress. Teachers also received top marks with examples of "very good" and even "excellent" teaching being observed by the Ofsted team.
Commenting on how Guardian Angels' works hard on behalf of its youngsters, Mr Newell, said: "This is a very caring and supportive school where the welfare and well-being of pupils is afforded a high status. The school provides a safe and caring environment where all are equally valued.
Of the leadership, Mr Newell said: "The headteacher leads by example and, with good support from the staff, has created a safe Christian school where all pupils are valued and very well cared for.
"The headteacher shows a fierce determination to improve standards and the quality of the education the school provides. He is striving for excellence for the school and capitalises on opportunities that arise to do this.
Head teacher Dennis Harrison said: "It is a genuine pleasure to come to work each day here at Guardian Angels'. I am very proud to be headteacher here, with superb staff, very supportive parents and governors and most importantly fantastic children who are a credit to the school and their families. This excellent report is well deserved by everyone."
