PLANS for a new sculpture in the heart of Bacup have received a resounding "no" vote from townsfolk.
The sculpture has been proposed by the Bacup Consortium and Groundwork Rossendale as part of the 30-mile Irwell Sculpture Trail.
But in a phone poll, 79 people called for the restoration of a water feature on the site, on a roundabout in the town centre, but nobody wanted a sculpture.
Plans for the sculpture are still going ahead despite the unfavourable poll, although Groundwork Rossendale's Martin Proffitt said he hoped a solution suitable to everyone could be reached.
He added: "What we are trying to get across is to do something different for Bacup, rather than just replace the fountain with another fountain."
