WHAT a thoroughly unpleasant organisation 'Britain in Europe' is, as represented by Gary Arthurs (Citizen, last week).

Those of us who want British withdrawal from the European Union do so, by and large, because we are sick of big government and big bureau-cracy. Also, with the advent of the 'global village' we should be looking to work with the world and not be locked into Europe.

If the case for further European integration is so strong why do people like Mr Arthurs increasingly resort to personal abuse against those of us who disagree with him?

For the record I have lived and worked in Mexico, Holland and Greece. I spend as much time as possible in France and other European countries, and I love garlic. I am regularly in touch with friends throughout the world, dispelling his cheap shot at 'Johnny foreigner' haters!

What those of us opposed to the EU really hate is the endless gravy train financed by taxes from people throughout Europe not just Britain. Talking of gravy trains, I wonder if Mr Arthurs salary is paid by the 'Britain in Europe' organisation?

We are not 'peddling myths and falsehoods' as he alleges, we just want the truth about the European Union and its constitution so that the people of this country can have a frank and honest debate about our future.

It's a shame that people like Mr Arthurs, and our Government, don't have the respect for the populace shown by the French government - which at least admits that the new constitution is a huge change and is giving its people a referendum. We can learn a lot from 'Johnny foreigner'.
