TODAY we are officially launching our second Pride of East Lancashire award - the accolade for Child of Courage.
There are many situations where youngsters' courage shines through and that courage comes in many different forms.
This award, sponsored by Inter Link Foods, is designed to highlight and reward the under-16s who have demonstrated bravery in whatever way.
Nominees might be heroic lifesavers who have put themselves in danger to help somebody else. Or they could have used their initiative to get help from another source, by dialling 999 or running to fetch assistance from a neighbour.
Potential winners might have risked their safety by diving in to save a drowning victim or rushing into a blazing house to rescue trapped occupants. A nominated child might equally have demonstrated their courage through battling illness or other difficult circumstances.
They may have shown enormous strength in supporting a parent or guardian after a parental split or a family bereavement, or could have proved invaluable in assisting a relative through illness, and putting their own needs aside.
If you think a child has shown tremendous bravery in the past 12 months, write in and tell us.
As with all 11 of our Pride of East Lancashire Awards, which are designed to highlight and reward deserving individuals and groups in East Lancashire, nominees can be entered by a third party or can enter themselves.
The winner of this award will receive a £2,000 holiday and £1,000 in cash. This, along with a winner's trophy, will be presented at a glittering awards night at King George's Hall, Blackburn on November 22.
All nominations must be received by September 30.
