YOUTHS have been warned by firefighters about the dangers of starting rubbish fires.

In the last four days, one watch at Darwen fire station has had 15 calls to deliberately started rubbish fires.

Sub-officer Alan Burgess said: "It is a problem. When they call us out for rubbish fires it delays us going to house fires where someone might be trapped and in danger.

"These call outs could mean the difference to someone's life."

The problems, he said were in three particular areas -- Cemetery Road, Anyon Street and Hindle Street.

The latest was at 2.55am yesterday when a skip in Duckworth Street was set alight and damaged the shop next to it.

Sub-officer Burgess said: "Setting fire to skips or other containers is especially dangerous, as you do not know what is inside."
