BOSSES at Bacup Borough Football Club have launched a fundraising campaign in a bid to see them through the new league.

A series of fundraising events have been organised to take place throughout the year to fund kits, expenses and travelling costs, after the Cowtoot Lane club, won promotion from the North West Counties League Division Two, to Division One, alongside Stone Dynamos.

Following the huge success of a bedding and curtain sale day, bought from Dorma, another event has been organised.

Commercial manager Debra O'Conner, said: "The sale day was really successful. The physio is a buyer for Dorma so he was able to get it really cheap for us so we could sell it and make a profit. We want to expand on this and make them a regular thing."

The next one has been scheduled to take place at the Martin Peter's Sports Bar on Sunday, from 1-4pm.

A car boot sale will take place in South Street at Bacup's gala day on Sunday June 22, when players will travel through the town on an open top bus parading the cup.

A duck race is currently being organised with the help of the town crier Peter Gill. During the August Bank Holiday weekend, officials are in the process of planning 'It's a knockout.'

The club are hoping to make a big impact on the league and gain promotion again next year and the players are urging the people of Rossendale to support them.

Centre forward David Gray, said: "We want the people to get behind us this year and show their support. We need their help.

"As players, we have high aspirations and want to help make the club successful, not just for us, but to help put Bacup on the map."
