POLICE have pledged to take tough action against drug dealers in Burnley but are calling on residents to help them in their bid to rid the town of illegal substances.
Officers in Burnley have responded to concerns about drugs from residents in the Top o' the Town area.
A 42-year-old man, Peter White, was arrested earlier this week and charged with possession of amphetamine and possession of heroin with intent to supply after the a drugs warrant on Lindsay Street.
White was due to appear before the town's magistrates today.
According to PS Martin Selway, the latest warrant was one of many with further action planned over the coming weeks and months.
He said: "Tackling drugs and drug-related criminality is a key concern for police in Burnley. The use and supply of drugs and the crime that this attracts, cannot and will not be tolerated.
"A lot of good work is under way to identify and arrest dealers particularly in the Top o' the Town area where local police community support officer Zahid Ahmed has been busy listening to what the community has to say and working with them to tackle crime.
"However, information from local residents is vital. We need people to have the courage to come forward with details of people they suspect are involved in drugs activity."
He added: "Burnley residents are more fortunate than others in that they now have a dedicated Drugsline which they can call free with information in complete confidence. They can pass details on to the operators knowing that nobody will ever find out that they made the call, plus it's completely free too, so it won't cost them a penny."
PS Selway went on: "Drugs needn't blight our communities. By working together in partnership we can make real inroads into drug dealing and drug related criminality."
Anybody with information or concerns about drug dealers should contact the Drugsline on 0800 555 885.
