ABOUT 2,000 homes in Whitefield and Ringley were left without electricity early on Friday following a powercut.

Engineers from United Utilities worked from 4am to restore power to most of the affected properties at around 5.30am.

However, around 250 homes in the Whitefield area were left without electricity.

A spokesperson for United Utilities said: "While engineers are still trying to fix the fault, we have requested a generator on site.

"We apologise to those people affected, but engineers worked very quickly to get most people restored while they were sleeping this morning."
