NEITHER Fylde clubs could find a victory as Fleetwood lost to Kendal and St Annes drew with Leyland Motors.

At Kendal the home side were restricted to only 116 with Zac Taylor taking the bowling honours with a splendid 6-32. But this proved 17 too many for Fleetwood who were in turn bowled out for just 99.

And St Annes, having made 185-6 with Gareth Evans leading the way with55, were unable to bowl out Leyland Motors at Vernon Road despite 5-39 from Geoff Love. Motors held out for a draw at 116-7.

Having lost to Kendal at Shap Road on Saturday, Fleetwood extracted a modicum of revenge with a National Knock-Out Cup victory at Broadwater on Sunday.

Fleetwood batted first and made an impressive 234-6, a total that was always going to take some attaining, and Kendal replied with 191 all out to lose by 43 runs.

John Wright and Michael Dewhurst had 47 on the board by the 10th over when the former was caught behind by Chris Florence of15-year-old Tom Barton for 22. Dewhurst, 34, followed his partner back to the pavilion at 78 when he unluckily pulled a ball from Stuart Parkin onto his wicket.

Michael Clinning, 47 from 58 balls with seven fours, and Zac Taylor, 57 from 74 balls with one six and five fours, then put on 70 runs in13 overs.

They both fell in the chase for further quick runs, Clinning leg before wicket to Terry Hunte and Taylor caught off a skier by Dave Fallows off Adam Cowperthwaite.

John Whalley was bowled by Adrian Potts for five and James Ellis was bowled by Kevin Howarth for 15 which left Andy Singleton not out on 28 and Paul Hague four not out, having faced just one ball. Fleetwood therefore closed at 234-6 from their 45 overs.

It was always going to be a big ask for Kendal and much depended on Terry Hunte. He came to the crease at the fall of the first wicket when Florence was caught by Taylor off Dave Fish for 17 with the total at 24 in the eighth over.

He was missed early on by Hague from a relatively simple chance in the gully and thereafter he struck the ball well to make 50 from 65 balls with four fours.

He was sixth out at 131 in the 30th over and by then Kendal's chances had effectively gone.

Howarth blasted a quick 21 before falling to a catch on the deep square leg boundary by Fish off Hague and Fallows only made five before Wright caught him off Clinning at 120-4.

Hague smartly ran out Gareth Ashburner for one and after Hunte was out, Clinning, young Tom Blundell and Taylor cleaned up the Kendal innings.

Fish took two further catches, at deep square leg to dismiss Stuart Parkin off Blundell for eight and at long on off Clinning to dismiss Potts for 11. Taylor had Mohammed Sarfraz caught by Hague for 19 and next ball Ellis smartly stumped Barton off Taylor and with Cowperthwaite not out on 15, Kendal were all out for 191 to lose by 43 runs.

Fleetwood now meet Cheshire County League side Bowden at home in the next round, probably a week on Sunday.
