Clarets chairman Barry Kilby has launched a veiled attack on Ipswich Town after the Suffolk club beat the Clarets to the signature of Drissa Diallo earlier this week.

He feels a sense of injustice at the fact the Tractor Boys were able to offer Diallo a better deal than Burnley did, even though the club only recently came out of administration and said: "It does stick in the throat a little bit.."

The Portman Road outfit were given the go-ahead by the Football League to start signing players again earlier this week after creditors agreed to a settlement in regard to outstanding debts owed by the club.

That then cleared the way for manager Joe Royle to make his move for Diallo while Burnley, in the meantime, are left to struggle with the full financial implications brought about by the demise of ITV Digital.

"We made our best offer, but Ipswich were in the hunt and, although he wanted to stay at Burnley, they offered better terms than we could," said Kilby.

"It does stick in the throat a little bit. They've paid some creditors just five per cent and now they're free and in the marketplace, whereas we're working through the ITV Digital crisis and there is a sense of injustice there."
