TOTS and parents will soon benefit from a new nursery in Radcliffe, after a project received almost £130,000 of Lottery funds.

Ambers Attic, in Stand Lane, has been given the green light to open its doors in September to around 55 children living in the area.

The money, totalling £126,121, was awarded by the New Opportunities Fund. It will be used to create nursery places, and enable parents to explore work and training opportunities.

Holly Wallace, who owns the former wholesale building with her husband, Darren, said: "We will provide high quality childcare and will working with the parents to help them get back into work.

"We also want to help the area and get it back on its feet. The property is a fantastic building, and we are very excited now about using the money to get the project up and running."

Work is currently underway on the building to get it ready in time for the new school term. Holly, who will also work hands-on at the project, hopes to eventually have a team of 25 assistants.

The services on offer at the centre will include advice workshops, telephone rooms, before and after school clubs and lecture rooms for parents' basic skills classes. The scheme will also be serviced by a free pick-up and drop-off service.

She said: "We aim to cater for what people want in the area, services that they think they will benefit from. It is hoped that the scheme will be held up as an example about being inclusive also. We want everyone to be able to access what we have on offer.

"We also hope to introduce alternative forms of teaching, like basic sign language, to help develop children further."

The grants come from the New Opportunities Fund's Building Neighbourhood Nurseries programme to increase nursery provision across the North west, with more than £3.2 million being given to create 23 new nurseries.
