Business leaders in Lancashire were served up a tempting treat - the recipe for making their small companies more successful.

It was an unusual 'marketing mela' staged in an indian restaurant, the Agra Indian, at Hapton, Burnley.

Small ethnic businesses in Hyndburn, Pendle, Burnley and Rossendale gathered for an interactive workshop hosted by the Lancashire Centre for Marketing Excellence.

The mela aimed to help firms pick up common sense tips on saving money.

The workshop was open to existing and new start businesses and was organised in partnership with Lancashire County Council, Enterprise plc and the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Speaker, Gordon Jones of Gregory-Jones Marketing Communications, said, "Many businesses spend hard-earned money on advertising, yet much of it proves ineffective. My presentation aimed to enable owner managers to identify the right messages and the means to speak to the customers they really want to speak to."
