BURY's footballers have won some European silverware!

But, it's not the Shakers that have flown the flag so successfully but Westbury's junior sides.

The club took three teams to Holland to compete in tournaments involving English, Dutch and German teams and competed to such a high standard that they came away with some trophies.

The under-8's side were highly commended when crowned champions for winning the Jeugdtoernooi at D.E.H. Rotterdam and played very well to achieve second place in the tournament at SV Zeist.

The under-9's played above themselves to achieve excellent runners-up positions in both their older section competitions after playing against much older and stronger lads.

The under-12's side were equally successful, winning all but one of their games.

The trip was a huge success for all 30 youngsters involved, who also managed to fit a visit to Ajax Amsterdam's stadium into their schedule.

Andy Ward, club chairman and manager of the under 9's said: "It was a tremendous effort and a great achievement for all three teams. I am very proud of all the boys and families who represented Westbury. The experience and memories will no doubt stay with the boys forever.

Under 8's manager Steve Henderson was equally thrilled: "We have all been looking forward to the tour and the opportunity to play teams from different countries. The boys really enjoyed themselves and to bring home a first and second place is just fantastic."

The club would like to thank Maria Clifton and Gary Stansfield for organising the tours and to all corporate sponsors and fund-raisers whose generosity helped to make the trip possible.
