INFANTS and junior school children are voluntarily staying behind after school.
They are flocking to council community activity officer Lynn Hayes' Fit 'n' Fun Club every Tuesday at Leigh's Newton West Park primary in Tennyson Avenue.
Lynn is working with the sports co-ordinator at Westleigh High School, Anne Waltho, and is visiting its feeder junior schools to teach the children the art of keeping fit in an amusing way.
Classes start with fun warm ups, circuit training, hoppers and parachute games.
Six weeks are spent at each school and Lynn has already covered St Paul's, Westleigh Methodists and Hindley Green CP.
She said: "Young children these days don't have the chance to play netball and rugby which will keep them fit. There are too many overweight children now and the club not only teaches them games but they also learn about muscles and joints. It caters for 5-10 years olds."
